List of EMS Tips, Tricks, and Meds
List of EMT and Paramedic Tips and Meds
This page includes an alphabetical list of each week’s offering and a link to each week’s shownotes entry. EMTs and paramedics will be able to use this as a resource to find specific tips and episodes from the past.
How to Use These EMS Study Aids and Tools
EMS students will find valuable information on these pages as well including the podcast files that will enable them to find the study aids they will need to help them succeed in EMT or paramedic school. The goal of course is to prepare everyone for the NREMT exam.
I recommend that you divide and conquer when approaching your studying. Select a single topic, body system, or type of emergency. For instance choose respiratory emergencies as a study topic. Go down the list below and select your tools from the list. You might select some of the linked episodes like ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome), asthma, oxygen administration, needle decompression, allergies and anaphylaxis.
- Load these free episodes on your favorite mp3 player, burn them to a CD, or just listen to them on your computer.
- Listen to the episode segments on the respiratory topics (fast forward to the part you want). You can do this on the road, while you are doing chores, and during your other down times.
- When you have dedicated study time, review your textbook and study notes. While you are doing this, integrate the tips and information from the audio files in with the info from your text and notes.
- Go back and listen to the study tips again while you are driving to work, on the way to class or other “down times.” While doing this, integrate your text and study notes into the mix of information now in place in your memory.
Other Study Aids for EMTs and Paramedic Students

If you are having trouble using the free paramedic and EMT study tools below, you may need to search for some of the tools you can purchase to help you reach your goal of becoming an EMT or Paramedic and have success in your school or certificate program.

Comments on List of EMS Tips, Tricks, and Meds
Jamie,
I am currently volunteering at Brigham Young University’s EMS as an EMT-B. I was certified in the state of IL aswell as nationally. Unfortunatly this is not recognized in UT and I will be taking my tests this weekend as part of the reciprocity process.
I just want to thank you for including tips and tricks as they have greatly helped in my preparation for this exam. I feel greater confidence knowing from the “inside”, what is expected of me. Keep up the great podcast!
Joshua Batt
Jamie, some time ago you published a tutorial re Renal signs and symptoms. I now have an assignment and wish to revisit for reference, but I can’t find it!!!!!!
Help please
Jamie-
I am a paramedic student in Edmonton Alberta. As you know school is hard enough- not to mention I work 2 1/2 hours away so I spend every weekend on the road. Since finding your program I am able to study while I drive! Thank you so much for offering your knowledge, and thank you to everyone who contributes it is very beneficial.
