MedicCast Episode 397

Good day and welcome to this week’s episode of the MedicCast. I’m your host, Jamie Davis the Podmedic and I’d like to welcome you to this week’s show. First up, in this week’s EMS news items we’ll be looking at a story about how more and more jurisdictions are distributing Narcan to lay rescuers and the general public to combat narcotic overdoses.

Then in this week’s tip segment pharmacist Amanda Lent joins us again for another EMS pharmacology segment. This time around we’re talking about some problems with some ways anaphylaxis protocols are written, especially the improper use of epinephrine. That’s all coming up later on in this episode after the news.

Before we get to that though, please make sure you check out the links and additional information available for you over at the MedicCast blog at MedicCast.com/blog. Take some time and make sure you follow up on the information you get on the show and understand how it applies to your EMS practice and protocols.

Tip of the Week:  Amanda Lent on Epinephrine and Anaphylaxis Drugs

Amanda Lent, PharmDIn this week’s tip segment I bring back EMS pharmacist Amanda Lent from PharmacologyConsultingServices.com. Amanda is working to improve EMS protocol pharmacology by working with medical directors and EMS systems to ensure that EMS protocols contain the most up-to-date and correct drug and treatment information.

Among the errors she has commonly found are mistakes in the treatment of anaphylaxis and severe allergic reaction. Check out this segment with Amanda on what systems should be aware of regarding EMS use of drugs like epinephrine, steroids and more, also check out http://www.buysteroidsonline.org where you will find plenty of more information.
