MedicCast Episode 385
Good day and welcome to this week’s episode of the MedicCast. I’m your host, Jamie Davis the Podmedic and I’d like to welcome you to this week’s show. There’s a fantastic show coming up for you this week including a news item about a fun new EMS app from the gang at Limmer Creative just for EMS Week.
Then, after the news, we’ll head in to a new segment with Lisa Booze from the Maryland Poison Center as she brings us another toxicology segment. This time around, Lisa is talking about liquid nicotine poisoning and especially the risks to young children from these unregulated new products on the market. That’s all coming up later on in this episode.
Before we get to that though, please make sure you check out the links and additional information available for you over at the MedicCast blog at MedicCast.com/blog. Take some time and make sure you follow up on the information you get on the show and understand how it applies to your EMS practice and protocols.

Tip of the Week: Liquid Nicotine Poisoning with Lisa Booze
It’s time for this week’s tip of the week with a new Tox Tidbit segment on toxicology with Lisa Booze from the Maryland Poison Center at MDPoison.com. This week on the show, Lisa shares with us a look at the dangers associated with liquid nicotine products associated with e-cigarettes that are popular with some folks right now. As an unregulated product, there is no way to determine the actual concentration of nicotine present and the containers are not made to be child resistant causing a particular danger to young children who might ingest.
Right after we recorded this segment, Lisa recontacted me with some new information as well. She found that an even higher concentration of nicotine is available online that could be fatal in young children if as little as 1 ml were ingested. Also, a new study was released on liquid nicotine in the New England Journal of Medicine. I have that citation in the show notes in case you want to check that out on you own. Check out this informative segment with our good friend Lisa Booze.
