Billing fraud and ambulance services, ambulance driver gets a ticket, Dallas community paramedic house calls, and we’ll chat with our good friend Lisa Booze from the Maryland Poison Center with her update on the detergent pod poisoning problems some children are having in communities like ours. If that’s what you’re looking for, you found it, right here on this week’s episode of the MedicCast.
MedicCast Episode 361
Good day and welcome to this week’s episode of the MedicCast. I’m your host, Jamie Davis the Podmedic and I’d like to welcome you to this week’s show. There’s a great episode coming up for you this week including some interesting EMS news items. We’ll take a look at what some Dallas EMS providers will be doing to prevent hospital re-admission and cut back on frequent flyer transports. Then after the news, we bring you a segment with Lisa Booze, a Pharmacist and poison center expert who regularly joins us with her “ToxTidbit” Segments. This time around, Lisa revisits her previous report on detergent pod poisonings she did last year at this time. She has some updated research to share and more information on patient outcomes from these poisonings.
Before we get to that though, please make sure you check out the links and additional information available for you over at the MedicCast blog at MedicCast.com/blog. There’s a show notes link at the top of the page. Click that link and it will take you right to the most recent episode and you can scroll down there to find any previous episode. There’s also a search box there for you on the right if you are looking for something in particular. Take some time and make sure you follow up on the information you get on the show and understand how it applies to your EMS practice and protocols.

Tip of the Week: Detergent Pod Poisonings Revisited
We are joined again this week by Pharmacist Lisa Booze from the Maryland Poison Center with another of her ToxTidbits on overdose and poisoning calls we might see when responding. Last year, Lisa Booze visited with a look at detergent pods and the increased number of poisonings reported involving them. She returns this week with an update on the subject with some research to back up the problem and point to possible treatments and outcomes for patients we encounter with this problem. Remember, as always, you should follow your protocols and rules regarding poison control and taking orders or direction from them in your region. Here’s that segment with Lisa.
