Paying the Bill for EMS

Starting off this week’s EMS news is a great article I found in a small Pennsylvania paper about how and why EMS agencies bill for their services. Many folks don’t understand why they get billed, thinking that their EMS service is provided free of charge by their local governments.

The Muddy Angels Ride for Fallen EMS Comrades

In that last article, we talked about educating our public about what we do EMS. In this article we talk about who does it or more specifically, those who have died doing their jobs in EMS in the past year. Every year, the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride, nick-named the Muddy Angels, travels across a portion of the country to commemorate our fallen EMS providers.

Finally, wrapping up the news this week is a look at a recent CDC report on emergency department use, or in some cases, overuse by certain segments of the population. This is important because it is statistics like this that can show us how to change the way people access care during emergencies and after normal primary care hours.

Tip of the Week: Albuterol/Atrovent Med Review for Paramedics

Coming up in this week’s tip of the week is a continuation of our series on allergic reactions. This week, we’ll continue to look at medications used to treat allergic reactions and similar problems. Last week we looked at diphenhydramine and the week before that, epinephrine. This week we’ll look at the nebulized medications of Albuterol and Atrovent in this emergency medical services medication review.
