EMS Organizations Announce Partnership
To start of the EMS news this week I feature an exciting announcement from two of the primary advocates for emergency medical services. The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) and the National Emergency Medical Services Management Association (NEMSMA) recently voted to mutually support each other.
Child Poisonings and Increased Prescription Drug Use
Next up in the news is a look at a recent study in the journal Pediatrics on how increased prescribing practices for adults has led to an increase in the numbers of pediatric poisonings reported to the nation’s poison centers.
NC EMS Agency Investigated by US Labor Department
Finally in the news this week, a look at how one EMS agency in North Carolina is being investigated by the U.S. Department of Labor for violating fair labor practices in the employment of EMTs and paramedics there. They are looking back at the past two years and announced that they are looking at things like the use of Flex time and overtime practices.
Tip of the Week: Diphenhydramine Med Review for Paramedics
In this week’s tip of the week we look at the medication diphenhydramine. This continues our series on allergic reactions. Last week we looked at the medication epinephrine. With the treatment of severe allergic reactions out-of-the-way let’s look at how we treat mild to moderate allergic reactions in our segment on diphenhydramine.
