News:

Too Many Still Texting and Driving

Kicking off the news this week is a look at an article from EMSWorld.com that some might say is proof that the EMTs and paramedics will have long-term job security. Despite laws against it and education campaigns against it, people are still driving and texting simultaneously.

A Look at Campus EMS Systems at Colleges and Universities

For many of you the existence of a college-based volunteer EMS system is probably no surprise. I’ve covered it here on the MedicCast many times in the past, especially with the interview segment on the National Collegiate EMS Foundation I did several years ago.

EMS Has to Become Mobile Integrated Healthcare

Finally an article on the changing face of EMS. In the previous article I talked about how being involved in disparate different aspects of the community and the response to emergencies in the community. EMSworld.com and other leaders in the emergency medical services community are expanding the vision of what we do by looking at how we might change the name of who we are.

Tip of the Week: David Page and Freedom House Win EMS 10 Award

David Page, EMTP

In this week’s tip of the week I bring you a segment from the EMS Today 2013 conference earlier last month where guest host Chris Montera, from the EMS Garage, interviewed EMS 10 awardee David Page. Dave organized a training program for underprivileged teens in his community called Freedom House. Freedom House trains these youths to be EMTs and provides them a response location to take care of patients in their community. A special thank you to EMS Today, Penwell, Physio-Control, and JEMS.com for providing us a location for our podcast studio at EMS Today to record this and our other special segments. Let’s go ahead and get into that segment with Chris, Dave and two of the Freedom House students, now.
