Learning to Treat Autistic Patients
First up in the news this week is an interesting article I found at EMSWorld.com looking at how we handle and treat autistic patients. According to the CDC approximately one out of every 88 children in the US has some level of autism or some diagnosis along the autism spectrum.
Handling Suicidal Patients and Firearms Access
Next up in the news is a look at how we handle depressed and suicidal patients in the type of history taking questions we ask and should be asking them. A study from the University of Colorado School of Medicine says that many emergency department staff members, physicians and nurses, failed to follow up and ask if suicidal patients have access to firearms in their home or vicinity when they’re not in the emergency department.
Nurse Practitioner and EMS Service Join Forces
Finally in the news this week I’ll look at a great program coming out of Mesa Arizona and their unique partnership between the Mesa, Arizona fire department and Mountain Vista Medical Center.
Tip of the Week: Masimo’s Innovative iSpO2 Mobile Device
In this week’s tip of the week we look at the Masimo and their innovative new product the iSpO2 pulse oximeter device. This was my product innovator pick for the EMS Today conference last month in Washington DC. Again I’d like to offer a special thank you to our sponsors for that event for allowing us to come in and bring you the video segments recorded in our podcast studio there at EMS Today.
So a special thank you to Physio–Control, Penwell, EMS Today, JEMS.com and all of the amazing podcasters who joined us in the podcast studio at EMS Today. I am joined in this segment by Chris Montera and Tom Bouthillet, who joined me to talk with Steve Heightman from Masimo about their iSPO2. Let’s get into that segment with Masimo’s Steve Heightman right now.
