Not Always Using EMS Skills is a Skill
I kick off this week’s news items with a look at a great article written by Kelly Grayson a.k.a. ambodriver on twitter. Kelly is also one of our podcasters on the ProMed Network with his confessions of an EMS Newbie podcast. Kelly wrote this column over at EMS1.com and he addresses an important part of maturing as an EMS provider – when to use your skills.
Implantable Wireless Micro-Lab
So, what if you could read the troponin levels on that suspected cardiac patient as soon as you got to their home? Researchers in Switzerland have developed a micro-lab chip that can be implanted under a patient’s skin and continuously read up to 5 different blood lab readings in realtime and transmit that data in real time to your smartphone or other wirelessly connected device like your heart monitor.
Depression, Anxiety, and Heart Attack
Finally in the news this week, a look at your typical cardiac patient. Recently, researchers at Duke University have found that two psychological issues can greatly contribute to the risk for sudden cardiac arrest in cardiac patients. Have you noticed when your cardiac patients are depressed or anxious? What do you do to treat these problems?
Tip of the Week: New Product Trends with Dan White
Let’s get in to this week’s tip segment with a special video segment recorded in the podcast studio at EMS Today 2013 in Washington, D.C. Here’s a segment we recorded as part of our finale segment with the awesome Dan White a.k.a. @paradan on twitter and one of the most prolific EMS product inventors and developers out there right now.
Dan comes on with myself and Chris Montera to chat with us about his new innovative products and he also chats with us on the cool things he’s been watching in the new EMS product arena. Let’s get into this video segment, but before that a special thank you to EMS Today, JEMS.com and Physio-Control for making this possible.
