David Page Recognized as EMS Innovator

Kicking off the news this week is a report from paramedic David Page’s hometown newspaper on his winning one of this year’s EMS 10 awards. David put together an EMT program at his local community college that targeted disadvantaged teens offering them the opportunity of a career in emergency medical services after their completion of the program.

New Concussion Sports Safety Guidelines

Next up in the news, as the spring high school sports season is well under way, is a story on updates for concussion care in sports. The American Academy of Neurology has issued a new set of concussion guidelines aimed at increasing safety for young athletes.

Pittsburgh and Insurance Team-up for Community Paramedicine

Finally, this week’s news wraps up with an update on programs with community paramedic programs. The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s EMS program has announced a partnership with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield to provide reimbursement for services rendered by paramedics trained to provide care for individuals with chronic conditions without transporting them to the hospital.
