Upcoming EMS Conferences

Also look for me at some conferences near you in the next few weeks. I’ll be recording live at EMS Today with Chris Montera and the rest of the ProMed Network team in our podcast studio there. After that, I’ll be at the Public Health Preparedness Summit in Atlanta. If you are going to be attending either of these conferences, make sure you come by the booth and say Hi! I love to meet all of you when you stop by and it’s always a blast to see you guys in person.

There are links in the show notes for both EMS Today and the Public Health Preparedness Summit so check them out there. I think that’s enough introduction and contact info. There’ll be some more later on in the show but for now, let’s get on with this episode of the MedicCast and head on in to this week’s news.

News:

Challenges and Safety Around EMS Fatigue

In the first news item this week, I pulled an article from EMSWorld.com on dealing with fatigue in EMTs and paramedics. I know that EMS fatigue issues is not a new issue. Because we are available around the clock, we often work night shifts and then struggle to sleep during the day.

Paramedic Attacked After CPR Fails

Next up in the news is a completely different kind of safety issue, one which we all face too often. I’m talking about dealing with assaults from patients and bystanders on paramedics and other EMS providers.

EMS Road Risks Outlined

Finally in the news this week, an article that has become all to common an occurrence lately, EMS providers dying in motor vehicle accidents with an ambulance. I suppose you could say that it’s an occupational hazard and you’d be right.
