After that, I’ll be at the Public Health Preparedness Summit in Atlanta. If you are going to be attending either of these conferences, make sure you come by the booth and say Hi! I love to meet all of you when you stop by and it’s always a blast to see you guys in person.

Texas EMS Service Seeks New Volunteers
Are you part of an EMS volunteer organization, either as part of a volunteer fire department or a stand alone EMS volunteer service? In the first article in this week’s news I’m looking at a service in Blanco County, Texas who are holding a volunteer recruitment drive.
High Gas Prices and EMS Cutbacks
In the previous article this week, we looked at how EMS services can reach out to their public about seeking volunteers to reduce costs. This news item is similar with one Rochester, NY area EMS company seeking to explain their pain over the volatility of gas prices and how it affects what they do providing ambulance services.
Long Beach Paramedic Upgrades Stalled by Union
Finally this week, we wrap up with another budget driven EMS news item. The City of Long Beach California is proposing a change to the current staffing of their ALS units to move from ambulances with 2 paramedics per unit to staffing those same units with just one paramedic and an EMT.
Tip of the Week: Hypothyroidism EMS Review
We’ll continue in this week’s tip of the week with our series on common medical disorders with a look at hypothyroidism. Last week we talked about hyperactive thyroid disorders and this week we’ll look at the opposite problem. Understanding these types of disorders can help you better understand what’s going on with your patients, their vitals and how they respond to your treatments in the back of the ambulance as an EMT or paramedic. Now, hypothyroidism reviewed in a segment from the Nursing Show.
