Internet Self-Diagnosis on the Rise
Kicking off the news for the MedicCast this week is a recent study on internet health information habits. The Pew Research Center and the Pew Internet & American Life Project released information that one third of Americans have used the internet to either diagnose themselves or diagnose a health problem for a friend or relative.
Mentoring Kids Pays Off
Most of us can recount that person that helped to shape who we are today and while they may not be “officially” a mentor, we might call them one. A recent study on the effects of mentoring on youth has been released with some very positive results.
Teen Gives Dad Heimlich for His Birthday
In that previous news item, we learned about how we can reach out and mentor in our community. One of the things we can teach is CPR and First Aid to create new responders in our area. In Cary, NC Frank Jablonski is glad of such programs.
Tip of the Week: Hyperthyroidism EMS Review
This week on the tip of the week, we look at more examples of various conditions that show up on a patient’s medical history from time to time. People with thyroid disorders can present in various ways and so I thought we’d take some time over the next two weeks talking about two most common thyroid disorders Hyper- and Hypothyroidism. First off, hyperthyroidism also know as a hyperactive thyroid in a segment from the Nursing Show.
