If that’s what you’re looking for you found it right here on the MedicCast.

Paramedic TV Show For Kids
It’s always nice to kick off with a happy news item here on the MedicCast. This week we have a great article from the West Midlands in the UK where paramedics actually have a TV show for kids. It features real paramedics showing kids what it’s like to have an emergency ride in an ambulance and go to the hospital.
Voice Recognition and EMS Patient Care
I’m a big Star Trek fan. One of the things I love about that show is they just talk to their computers. I mean how cool would that be. We’re getting pretty close to having something like that happening. Those of you out there that have iPhones and talk to Siri all the time know what I mean.
Wouldn’t it be great if you’re in the back of an ambulance and rather than taking time out from your busy taking care of patient to type something into the computer you just dictate the patient care report information to a computer while the call is going on. This is a lot better than trying to remember everything you did two hours later when you’re back in station and you’re writing all your reports.
Severe Child Abuse Increasing
Finally in the news an alarming item that is drawing some conflict out of previous reports on child abuse. For the last 10 years or so, social services have being continually reporting that child abuse cases are on the decline. We have all been counting this a great public health win! However, Yale University went out and looked at the types of injuries and reports of injuries being sent in by emergency departments related to children and what they found was that the most serious forms of child abuse are actually on the rise. In some cases increasing nearly 10%.
EMS Hydrocarbon Toxicity Review
This week we have Lisa Booze joining us from the Maryland Poison Center again. Lisa’s a good friend of ours and she has been bringing great poison center related information to us on the show here for, I think, four years. We always look forward to hearing from Lisa. She’s back this week talking to us about hydrocarbon toxicity. This is most often related to aspiration of some kind of hydrocarbon.
