Tip This Week —US Army Field Medics

In last week’s episode of the MedicCast Live, host Jamie Davis had the opportunity to interview army medics and combat medicine instructors Sgt. Henry Clemmens and Sgt. Leo Mijares.

In the discussion, we learned that combat medics have to constantly train to ensure that they are prepared to care for the wounded and save lives on the battlefield. Unlike civilian paramedics, combat medics’ training are more focused on trauma care and less medicine since their main goal is only to provide first-aid treatment and sustain the life of the injured until professional help arrives of until the patient is transported to a medical facility.

Listen and find out more about army medics, how combat medicine affects care of trauma patients in the US, multisystem trauma in armed services, what do they learn, what kind of training one has to go through to be an army medic, equipment and procedures done in the field and more.
