This Week — Professional Organizations in EMS

This segment is from last Tuesday night’s MedicCast live episode. Find out about the different organizations and associations in EMS as the podmedic, Jamie Davis, joined by special guests Angel Burba of Howard Community College and former president of NAEMSE (National Association of EMS Educators), EMS podcaster and blogger Chris Montera of the EMS Garage, Scott of the GenMed show, and EMS Educator Kyle David Bates.

The discussion stresses out the purpose of having EMS organizations and some of those mentioned were having representation in legislation, provide educational tools for EMS, and act as advocates for providers. Professional organizations also influence change or improve the EMS system and membership helps them advocate better and have a bigger voice.

In whatever EMS organization you sign up for, be sure to have an idea of what the organization is advocating for, where their goals are directed as well as your expectations or what you would get from joining them.
