Tip This Week — Bariatric Patient Care
EMS providers like EMTs and paramedics often have to be resourceful and creative when it come to caring for obese patients. Because they are different from the standard patient, management of obese patients have become one of the complex challenges EMS providers might encounter.
Like any other patient, obese patients have right to expect professional and prompt emergency care, and providers have the obligation to deliver such care without risking their own health. Factors that should be taken into consideration include the availability of proper equipment and appropriate manpower, and the presence of protocols which provides the balance between providing patient needs and personnel safety.
