Poison Center Helps EMS Treat Maryland Cobra Bite

2

Two things about this story catch your eye right away.

  • Cobra Bite and
  • Maryland?

While not native to Maryland, people do have cobras in local zoos, research facilities and apparently a few as pets on the “down-low.”  When a woman was bitten recently, EMS responders contacted the poison center immediately about the incident the wheels began turning to find the appropriate medication for this patient’s injury.

Listen to our exclusive interview with Maryland Poison Center Toxicology Fellow, Patrick Dougherty, as he lays out the sequence of events and provides a few lessons for all providers out there.
