Safer EMS From Safer Ambulances – A Look at Side Loaders

I’ve wondered for a long time about why we still make ambulances in the same basic configuration as the old cadillac hearse style units of the 1960’s and ’70’s? Why not make a side loading ambulance to enable easier loading of the patient from whichever direction is safer for the EMTs and paramedics?

McCoy Miller ambulance company has created a side load ambulance that we saw recently at the EMS Expo in Atlanta. My friend Chris Montera of the EMS Garage podcast, along with Ted Setla on camera, interviewed one of the representatives from McCoy Miller about their new design.
