Tip of the Week Adapting to Non-Standard Patients

EMTs and paramedics are often heard talking about how we have to be able to adapt in EMS to non-standard situations.  Why is it that so many EMS providers fail to use those principles when dealing with non-standard patients?

In this episode of the MedicCast EMS podcast, Jamie Davis, the podmedic discusses four classes of non-standard patients and EMS providers need to adapt their assessments, equipment, and treatments to these commonly seen patients.

The four classes of non-standard patients:

  • Geriatric patients
  • Pediatric patients
  • Bariatric (obese) patients
  • Disabled or special needs patients
