Discussion on New Paramedic Show “Trauma”
Last Monday night, members of the EMS community got together online to watch the premier of the new show Trauma. Comments were mostly made on how TV paramedics portray the real paramedics and the accuracy of the procedures that they do.
For EMS providers, it is important that these kind of shows get as close to the real thing as possible to educate the public about what emergency medicine is all about and not give them false impressions or expectations.
Together with the podmedic were EMS podcasters Greg Friese of EMS Educast and Chris Montera of the EMS Garage with a paramedic consultant from the show as a special guest. One of the actresses, Aimee Garcia (facebook fan page), called in to share her experiences during her preparation for her character portrayal. She said that actual paramedics provided the EMS training for the actors which included the basic EMS procedures. She speaks highly of the profession and that experience made her understand more about what paramedics do and that she will suggest to the production team all the comments from the show to make it as real as possible and they will work hard to do EMS providers justice.
