Tip of the Week Airway Management Skills

Airway management is one of the critical skills for emergency medicine providers that requires mastery. A few seconds of delay in the establishment of a patent airway could result in serious irreversible damage to the patient.

To provide proper airway management, one should first understand the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system and the concepts that come with it like mechanism of breathing and gas exchange.

Skills in airway management include administration of oxygen, artificial intubation and administration of medications to support respiratory function.
