Tip of the Week Interview with Dr. Jeff Guy on EMS Pharmacology
Emergency medicine practitioners often encounter situations wherein drugs should be administered right away even before they reach the hospital. Such drugs are vital to the survival of the patient and prevention of further deterioration so EMS providers should be up to date on the common medications including its dosages and routes.
Medication errors are also high during stressful situations. To prevent these, paramedics should always be confident in their knowledge on medications and including proper administration techniques. Mastery of medication math is also important in determining the safe and effective dosage of a certain drug. These skills altogether eliminate the risks for medication errors and promote patient safety.
