Blood Pressure Vaccine
So many of our patients are seeing us for a chief complaint related to the complications of high blood pressure. Think about it:
- Strokes
- Heart Attack
- Aneurism
- Cardio-Vascular Disease
- Diabetes
- Kidney Failure
I found an article at WebMD that talks about an experimental vaccine to treat chronic high blood pressure. The vaccine works by targeting the enzyme angiotensin II. This enzyme is a link in the renin cycle process that contributes to peripheral vasoconstriction. The vaccine is targeting the same link that ACE inhibitors affect. If you want to know more about ACE inhibitors, check out MedicCast Episode 28 for more information and the Med of the Week list for specific ACE inhibitors.
