  1. Chris Black says:

Can you say, been there done that and got the tee shirt? Several years ago I was dispatched to an MVA, single vehicle at around 0800. We arrived just behind the fire department and a couple of police officers to find an overturned vehicle but no patient. We searched for about 15 minutes when 911 radioed us and informed us that a woman and child were at the emergency room and had been in the vehicle. They were picked up by a passer-by who took them to the ER. We called the ER and had them to ask the woman about any other people involved in the MVA. She made a statement to the nurses and officer taking her report that she and the child were the only ones involved in the crash. The searching continued while we waited for her answer. When we were sure that noone was in or under the car and that those were in fact the only two occupants we went back in service. Several hours later we were called back to the area, only about 200 yards away and on the other side of the road in a creek. A mangled body was found face down in the water that appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. he had been walking home from a nearby store at around the time of the origional call and never arrived. His father went looking for him and found him there. The lady in the MVA had struck him as she was driving along, swerved into the ditch and never told anyone that she hit someone. He had been laying in that water uncouncious, face-down with multy-system trauma and drowned. She was charged later with vehicular manslaughter. It still stings to think about that sometimes.

  2. RICH says:

WE HAVE EMERGENCY BUTTONS IN OUR SERVICE. IF ONE GOES OFF THE DISPATCHER IS SUPPOSED TO CALL THE UNIT AND IF THEY GET NO REPLY THEY AUTOMATICLY SEND ASSISTANCE. IF WE HAVE AN ACCIDENTAL ACTIVATION WE HAVE TO GIVE OUR UNIT NUMBER AND OUR ID NUMBERS TO MAKE SURE SOMEONE THAT MAY HAVE GOT AHOLD OF OUR RADIO CANCELS OUR ASSITSTANCE.
