My ambulance service operates a bariatric unit of which I am a crew member of once a week (AT LEAST)! Our average pt's wt in this unit is approx. 500 lbs. +. We normally have to assemble the ramps and the power winch for easier loading. It seems that the number of these pt's has increased year after year requiring more of these types of ambulances to be put into service around our region. I can relate to this article and attest to the eqipment making this particular part of the job alittle bit easier and safer not just for EMS workers but also our pt's.
